Rattling through second round of group games in Argentina and its impressive performers
Moving matchday in the U-20 World Cup. This was the round of games that could decide the fate of teams, guaranteeing a place in the knockout stages or an early plane journey home.
Gambia are among those staying in Argentina a little longer. They barged past a feeble France in their Group F match-up to book a place in the last sixteen, another impressive feat for an emerging football nation after their runners-up finish at this year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. They’re a good team with interesting prospects.
That’s not all for west Africa. Nigeria are through too, beating Italy and topping a group with Brazil (for the time being) to seal their spot in the later rounds. The USMYNT took a while to break Fiji resistance to certify their progression, England beat Uruguay in an eventful game to make it two from two, Colombia the same against Japan, and hosts Argentina are through too.
