Our Kickstarter failed and other updates: The Technical Area, June 2023
This month at SCOUTED we hit the ground running, then we hit a wall.
Hey folks,
Welcome to The Technical Area: a monthly rundown of operations at SCOUTED HQ.
When we first announced SCOUTED Notebook and our plans to move away from ad-based revenue towards a reader-supported model, I promised subscribers - you - would get the agency to look behind the curtain as we try to build this business together.
As a writer, the only way I feel comfortable communicating to hundreds of people is to write, so I’ve decided a monthly blog is probably the best way to ensure we hold up our end of the bargain. As with all things in running an independent publisher, we’re learning as we go, so there’s every possibility this will be scrapped, tweaked or take a different form entirely in the future - as always, the feedback of paid subscribers will shape what we do.
If you’re reading this as a free subscriber or are just here because you feel bad about our Kickstarter, please consider a paid subscription. Notebook will be the only way to support our work moving forward, and we think it’s a pretty sweet deal: you get brilliant writing, analysis, storytelling and tournament coverage direct to your inbox every week.
We use your subscription fees to pay the writers, designers and editors who make all this possible.
Subscribed? Great. Let’s get into it.
