Scouting the standouts from England U-17s' friendly against Portugal
Bitesize reports on Shea Lacey's impact, the electric Cardoso Varela, and more.
Welcome to our brand-new Scout’s Notes section, where one of our team compile their scribblings on a certain game or prospect into a bitesize report, perfect for those of you that really want to get ahead of the curve.
First up, Llew Davies picks out some players from England’s meeting with Portugal in a recent U-17 friendly at the always-busy Pinatar Arena.
Despite the scoreline, this game didn’t really have that much in the way of goalmouth action. England took an early 2-0 lead, scoring after 52 seconds and 11 minutes, then Portugal gradually ground them down to flip the scoreline around.
It did have plenty of exciting talent on show, though, ranging from Manchester United’s much-hyped Shea Lacey to Sunderland first-team goalscorer Chris Rigg.
Top tip: If you want to watch these sort of games live, then YouTube is your friend. You can watch this game back here, and keep your eye out for more on that channel and across nations’ channels too.
